Continental Run 2 Stop: Day 3 – Lady Grey

I’m writing this from my room in City Lodge, Bloemfontein. @motioncityfilms (Daddy) is across the room from me finishing up his third edit of the trip (we’re aiming for a video a day), and I’m trying to group my thoughts into edible chunks. I had to count the days on my fingers just to make sure we were still in fact on the third day, as usual with things like this, it feels like we’re on day six already and that so much has happened. We’ve already spent a night in PE, Cradock and Lady Grey. Here’s a look at a few more highlights of the Continental Run 2 Stop Challenge.

Our PE to Cradock stretch was easy. Our accommodation in Cradock was amazing, Victoria Hotel was like something out of a movie. The food was exceptional, if you like recipes that haven’t changed in 100 years – roasts that’ll make you eat till you sweat, home made bread with breakfast, etc – absolutely fantastic, all of it. We left Cradock pretty early yesterday, which was a good move seeing as the landscape leading up to and around Lady Grey is some of the most beautiful I’ve seen. It felt like I was in a western. There’s a very ‘outback’ feel about it, and I had a very strong urge to get on a horse and ride down some bandits.

We shot the athletes early then spent the day exploring before capturing the last of the athletes coming in. Our van got stuck on a mountain pass, we attempted to put a distraught sheep back on the right side of the fence – but with an open road either side the thing was impossible to catch, we did two trips up the mountain pass, got lost looking for a damn, and still managed to get some computer based work in. We explored right into the night, changing from scenery to locals – but I’ll tell you about our night adventures a little later.

Today (Sunday) we set off early from Lady Grey. We got the shots we needed early on which was great, because we could push for PE and get some computer work time in so that you can see exactly what’s been going down. Tomorrow (Monday) we head to a school in Bloem for some food packing, a soccer clinic, and a few other things. Daddy and I are shifting from Team 1 to Team 2 tomorrow, so there’ll be some fresh faces popping up in the videos.

Here’s some highlights from day 2 and 3.

Absolute magic from Daddy right there.

Nash…
Out.
