I was going to do a post on who to look out for at Daisies this year, but to be honest, there’s a small selection that stand so far above the rest there isn’t much point in breaking it all down. There are some top quality acts over the weekend, acts I’ll most certainly not be missing out on, but in all this build up to this weekend and all the talk I’ve seen and heard, there may as well only be one band performing. Bloc Party. I’m still trying to prepare myself for 23h20 Central Darling Time. It’s going to be big. If you’re attempting to do the same this may help, the latest Bloc Party setlist (from their Toronto show on 10 September). It may not be the one they use for us, but you can bet it’ll be pretty damn close.

We’ve chatted about Veto before (here), you loved them remember. Well, here’s something of their latest EP. If you liked them before make sure you are prepared for this. Here’s ‘Four To The Floor’, it’s live, which you should keep in mind before that very mind is blown. Turn it up.

Here’s the perfect soundtrack to a Monday morning. Something to kick it off in just the right way. It’s from The Maccabees, a band I haven’t heard anything about in quite some time – obviously my ears weren’t open though, because they released a new album in January. Below is something special, featuring some stuff off their new stuff, so if you are a fan, or don’t know who they are, take a listen. The below video is three tracks long, and is taken from a live session they did. Turn it up, because it’s awesome.

I have long had an infatuation with duos, from the White Stripes and the Black Keys to the bombastic Death From Above 1979 and more recently The Pack A.D and today’s featured band, Japandroids. The interesting thing about the last two bands is that they’re both from Vancouver and only use a guitarist and drummer. There must be a
shortage of good bass players in BC, but I’m definitely not complaining.

I recently got another lovely care package from Just Music, and the first album that got my attention was Twin Atlantic’s ‘Free’. I half recognised the name from somewhere, but I had no idea what the guys sounded like, or if they were even guys. I stuck it in the machine, and by the second track I knew I’d enjoy the album. The sound made me feel like I was in high school again, a more grown up high school, but it took me back none the less, then the lyrics and Scottish accents pulled me in a whole new direction. It’s a good album, below are my favourites.
