The Ultimate South African GoPro Video

The Ultimate South African GoPro Video

It’s always around this time of year that we start to see the ‘Best Of’ edits appearing. Compilations of the best clips or events of the year. Everything from Humans Are Awesome to Google’s Zeitgeist, this is the time we reflect. GoPro did it too, though they’ve done it a little differently this year. The below is a mixture of their ambassador footage cut into a shot narrative sequence. The result, a pretty rad look at the many uses and applications or the product, while showcasing how insanely rad South Africa is. Basically, it makes you want to be doing absolutely anything other than what you are doing right now. Also, they’re giving away a R50 000 GoPro experience.

Shit I’ve Liked Recently

Shit I’ve Liked Recently

What is this? Exactly what the headline says, shit I’ve recently liked from around the web. A few movie trailers – one of which looks like it’ll be my new Fantastic Mr Fox, a live performance from Woodkid that’ll blow your mind, a very amusing and oft relevant sketch on the world of a creative freelancer, another on our need to let the world know we’re exercising, another on the rise of femvertising “in order to stay ahead of the game we need to find tomorrows insecurities today“, and finally a bit of adventure porn – surfing a river in Montana.

New Bloc Party, Run The Jewels, an Awesome Dog, John Oliver, How to be a Man, & Pizza Hut

New Bloc Party, Run The Jewels, an Awesome Dog, John Oliver, How to be a Man, & Pizza Hut

What is this, a list of shit I’ve found instead of individual pieces!? Well yes it is. I’m adjusting my strategy to target these things called ‘millennials’. I’m not quite sure what they are, but they’re incredibly demanding and they take a lot of pictures of themselves. Jokes, I made that up. The strategy bit, everyone knows millennials love taking pictures of themselves. I’m actually just very important and busy now, but I still see amazing things on the internet ever day, and I’ve decided to start sharing them with you. Because I still know how to find better things than you.

We Just Landed a Robot on a Comet

We Just Landed a Robot on a Comet

While Kim Kardashian was trying to break The Internet with her backside, the intelligent humans of Earth, in an attempt to better understand comments and quite possibly the origins of life on Earth, managed to land a probe on a comment moving at around 135,000 kilometers per hour. That’s not even the impressive part. The Rosetta spacecraft was launched ten years ago with this very landing as its goal. Think about that. Ten years ago Rosetta launched, and now, some 6.4 billion miles later, it aligned with its target and launched its probe. The science behind that is mind boggling – Rosetta has used things like gravity assist manoeuvres to accelerate throughout the inner Solar System. It’s also carrying text and information, like a Rosetta stone from Earth, in case aliens find it – let’s hope they do. There’s so much science and info about this mission, and if you’re interested I suggest you do some reading, it really is incredible. Another rad thing about this European Space Agency mission, is that they commissioned a 6 minute arty sci-fi short starring the dude from Game of Thrones about the idea and the possibilities of unlocking the secrets of life on Earth. Watch it below, then get into the science of the thing. It’s a good day to be a human. Unless that comet belongs to someone else.

Alan Eustace Jumps From Stratosphere, Breaks Felix Baumgartner’s World Record

Alan Eustace Jumps From Stratosphere, Breaks Felix Baumgartner’s World Record

You are no longer allowed to assume that computer scientists are boring. This past Friday one of them voluntarily strapped himself to a balloon, caught a ride with it to the very edge of of our atmosphere – some 135,890 feet up, before plummeting back to earth faster than the speed of sound. Alan Eustace, the 57-year-old computer scientist beat the previous record of 128,100 feet held by Felix Baumgartner by 7,790 feet. And he did it without really telling anyone.

Life Hack of The Week: Sweets From Your Ice Dispenser

Life Hack of The Week: Sweets From Your Ice Dispenser

I find it almost impossible to deal with, the fact that this guy can come up with something so rad, but still film it all vertically. I know people joke about Vertical Video Syndrome being a thing, but has anyone done any real research on it, because how the hell do people not realise what they are doing? Anyway, I don’t often post life hacks on here, because I believe most of you are actually quite smart – you’ve made the choice to be here haven’t you, but this one was too good. It’s simple and beautiful, and I can’t even imagine the look on a child face the first time they try this out. Or you know, me at midnight when the during a battle with the munchies.
