I’m absolutely fascinated with the Vostok story. Basically Vostok is the third largest lake in the world. Why have you not heard of it then? Well, it’s situated under two miles of antarctic ice. It hasn’t seen light for more than 20 million years, most of the water in the lake is at least a few million years old. So why is this trapped lake so interesting? The Russians are literally days away from reaching it – and they’ve been drilling for close on TWENTY years. Of course, when they reach it, it’s the beginning of the end of our civilistion.

While it is an amazing scientific adventure, I’m quite certain that the eventual breakthrough, the point at which the Russian drill breaks through the ice and opens us up to a world untouched for millennia, will spell our doom. Why am I being such a Negative Nancy? I’m not, but if any of the 2012 prophecies of doom are to come true, Vostok holds their best chances.

Just think about it. Scientists are confident they will find some sort of life down there, perhaps even particles from other moons or outer space. This opens up all sorts of biological questions. Super viruses, aliens, body snatching parasites. I’ve watched X Files. And what about aliens? Has no one seen Alien vs. Predator? Or that dragon movie with Christian Bale and Matthew MgggaaghhuUGHgany? Ja, it’s cold up there, but the water is trapped between the hot surface of the earth and the massive ice cap – it’s being heated from the bottom, by malten lava, just below the earths surface – prime dragon scenario.

Then of course there is this concern, “Vostok, which is about the size of New Jersey, is the world’s third-largest lake by volume of water. The gas in the lake makes it like a can of carbonated soda: Open it under high pressure, and it will spurt out. The doomsday scenario for the Russian breakthrough would be if the suddenly released water shot up the borehole, which is six to eight inches in diameter at the top. The result, he said, could be an enormous geyser that could empty a quarter of the lake. The sudden addition of substantial water vapor to the antarctic atmosphere could change the continent’s weather in unpredictable ways.” Some say that’s slightly more believable, but then again, have the scientists ever seen that movie – they find dragons in a mine, a MINE! that’s not even half as cool as an untouched lake.

Look, either way, something is going to break out of that lake. A dormant Zombie strain, dinosaurs, aliens, Michael Jackson, something is coming out, and it’s probably going to kick off this whole end of the world 2012 thing. I’m not trying to scare you. I’m just saying. Be prepared.

Girls, in honour of last week’s tattoo expo, and Nash’s awe-inspiring gallery of hot girls with tattoos, I thought it would be only fair for me to do a hot boys with tattoos post. You may think it would be an easy task, finding good looking male humans with really hot ink decorating their skin. Well, you’re wrong. The internet is a mine field of hit and miss, and searching ‘hot boys with tattoos’ may as well be ‘androgynous boy/girls with emo hair and puppies taking self shots and pouting’. Honestly, where is their shame? Boys- self shots of your pouting face is going to do nothing but turn on your boyfriend. Anyway, after a lot of hard Googling I’ve put together a gallery that I’m rather proud of. Happy Friday!

No David For This Goliath: 7’5″ High School Basketball Player

Check this dude out, at seven foot five inches, and still in high school, he is taller than any active NBA player. Imagine having to defend against this dude. I’d probably develop a bad ankle just before the game. I mean, it can’t be fun, trying to defend while this guy junk flaps around in your face for an entire game. Screw that.

Be A Camera Slinging Super Hipster: The MoneyMaker

Being a dickhead is cool photographer can be tricky, especially when you have to lug around all those vintage cameras, each of which only really works in a certain light or emotions. How do you capture all those great Saturday morning food market moments, when organic self obsession is being enjoyed over a crisp bed of angst and farm fresh projected self loathing, all washed down with a micro brewed glass of I’m so fucking awesome? It’s a lot to capture on one camera, and we all know how hard it must be to get that second one out of that vintage leather sling, the one with the sticky clasp. That’s where the MoneyMaker comes in – the multi-camera harness.

Pigs In The Dark. With Speed Cameras

On the way to town the other night, coming down the M3 toward town, The Presenter noticed a flash and slowed down, I thought it may have been a street light or some kids messing around in a roadside house, but as we rolled on further I spotted it. A pig. In the pitch black night. Hiding under the cover of darkness, trapping cars, that just happend to be going down hill. Now, I’d never seen or heard of this, I thought I had better warn you.

Once you see them...it's too late.

Judging by the response on Twitter, a lot of you actually knew about this night trapping (basically a speed trap with a flash). Now, while that’s just a little annoying, seeing as the cops aren’t allowed to conceal themselves, which they aren’t at night – you just can’t see them, what I actually want to check up on here is the age old question of whether it is legal for them to trap on a downhill? I have heard from far too many sources that it is legal or it isn’t. Anyone out there with an educated answer? Because they do it here ALL the time, you know the spot…

As for the night trapping, it comes down to priorities once again, well in my mind at least. What the fuck is the cop doing trapping at 9pm at night, on a road bound for town, that’s pretty damn empty. If drunk driving is a concern check drivers coming out of town. But more importantly, why waste that resource when there are far worse offenders out there than people on their way out.

I’m guessing it’s because trapping at night, on a downhill, in a wealthy suburb is easy money.
