It seems 2013 is going to be the year of science fiction. Just yesterday we had a look at Oblivion – the adult remake of WALL-E staring Tom Cruise. Today we have basically exactly the same story, except this one stars Will Smith and his kid Jaden, who also return to earth after it has been evacuated and begin their struggle to survive on in the new world.
You may be wondering why Will was hardly in it. This is why (from Wikipedia):
“One thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.”
So Will is basically out of it and next year we’ll be comparing the acting abilities of Tom Cruise and Jaden Smith as they both attempt to survive their time in a world that has been evacuated and now holds nothing but danger.
