All about Bangers and Nash
Introduction
BangersandNash.com is an entertainment category blog written by Daniel Nash and produced by TRR Digital Industries. Inside there are stunning women, phenomenal music, the coolest events, weird Internet phenomena and a window into the life and personality of Nash himself.
A letter from Nash
The last few months have been a little ‘off the hook’ and interest in bangersandnash.com has skyrocketed. I’m not going to lie to you, it’s been overwhelming and I love it. BUT, I fear I’m treading a fine line, one I do not want to cross. I’m well aware that I receive a large amount of support because I haven’t ‘sold out’ – something a large number of non-bloggers seem to take offence to and a title they regularly label bloggers with.
And with this support comes traffic and interest, and with that comes recognition and with that comes offers from brands. What’s more is it seems every brand and their mother wants to get involved in this ‘social media thing’. Whether they know what they are doing or not is another matter all together. The fact is, they all want on.
I’ve noticed an exponential increase in the amount of online competitions bloggers are running, some of which I’d never heard of. A shotgun approach to marketing online seems to be the favourite of SA’s PR agencies and brands and whether or not it works remains to be seen – I think not.
Which brings me back to this site and how things work. bangersandnash has never been about me. It’s written for you. I don’t need to post things for me to read later to entertain myself. Of course everything I post I find interesting, but I put it up because I think you will find it interesting. There’s no bull here. No censorship (although mother has tried) and certainly no holds barred.
Things are happening though and I would be an idiot to turn down opportunities and, quite frankly those who think I should turn them down need to wake up. This is the real world and everything is worth something. Everyone works, your skills in exchange for a salary. I work a full day (sometimes) just like the rest of the world, in a bloody fantastic agency I may ad, and I blog on the side – it’s one of my passions and I love it, but time is few and it’s most certainly not free.
That said, I flat out refuse to say yes to everything because it’s free or there is cash offered. That, as far as I’m concerned is selling out. When it comes to brands, I have a few strict rules I stick with.
- I must dig the brand. Punting something I don’t like is a lie and you will see straight through it.
- There must be something in it for you. After all, you are the reason brands approach me. Free stuff for me MUST equal free stuff for you.
- I will never advertise a brand in the traditional sense. It’s my blog, if you come to me I do what I wish with the brand. I’m not going to piss all over it but I’m most certainly not going to publish your press release.
And that’s it. Three simple rules.
As the mean dude in Layer Cake says ‘The art of good business is being a good middleman, putting people together’. And that is exactly what I try to do. Sometimes I may get it wrong, sometimes I may piss one or two people off but in all honesty, they’ll just have to deal with it.
I get fucked up, live life, write about it, give you stuff and keep some for me. That’s how it works. I’m like the goddam Robin Hood of the interweb. Join me in the forest or buddy up with the aristocrats.
