We, as an audience, used to be fine with black and white silent movies. Then Westerns, then about twenty years of buddy-cop movies and baddies armed with turtle necks and uzi submachine guns. Then came computers and the idea of AI self-awareness. At first when this happened they just killed us, then things like the Fleshlight because a reality, and now people are making movies about humans falling in love with computers. There have been some pretty good ones, but if I’m honest, I just want the time traveling war machines hell bent eradicating humans back. EX_MACHINA does look good, but if someone doesn’t end up melting away in a fiery furnace I’ll be disappointed. This is directed by the man behind 28 Days Later, Sunshine, and Never Let Me Go, so it’ll probably be good either way.
